How we report
BriefPulse is ten topic desks built on one collector. This page says what that means in practice, including what we do when the material is not good enough.
Where stories come from
- Each desk follows a fixed list of public feeds and APIs, listed on the desk's own page. Nothing is scraped from behind a paywall and no page is read without a stated policy.Feeds are how we find a story. They are never cited as evidence.
- A story is written from the text stored for it: the publisher's own summary and, where available, the retrieved page text. Every article links the exact pages used.If a page address is missing from the record, we drop the citation rather than print an apology.
What each label means
- Report — a developed story written from at least 600 characters of retrieved source text.
- Brief — a short story limited to what the source summary states.
- Notice — a one-line pointer to something one of the desks follows, with no claim beyond the source's own words.
What we check, and what that does not mean
- Numbers and identifiers in the text must appear in the stored source text before publication. Figures that cannot be traced are removed, not guessed.
- Each story's reported statements are listed under What the reporting says, and each one links the page that states it. Statements we could not trace to a page are not shown.
- Analysis is labelled Our view and is never mixed into the reporting. We do not claim that every sentence has been independently verified by a second party: the check is against the stored source text, and that limit is the honest one.

A held item's URL stays reachable with an explanation of how it was withdrawn, so no reader follows a link into a dead end.
Images
- Photographs are licensed illustrations with a stated creator, licence and licence link, shown in the caption. They are never used as evidence for a story, and we do not present a stock or library photograph as a picture of the event being reported.
- Where no suitable licensed photograph exists, the page uses typography rather than a broken or unrelated image.
Corrections
- When source material changes, the story is revised and the change is recorded on the article as a correction note with the revision number.
- To ask for a correction, reply to the desk that published the story; the contact address is on the subscription page.
